We employ more than 90 intermediaries to work across England and Wales, and our service is supported by a dedicated operations team based in the West Midlands.

What is an intermediary?

An intermediary is a highly skilled communication specialist who is commissioned by the court to facilitate communication with a service user. Our intermediaries come from a range of professional disciplines.

Many are qualified and experienced Speech and Language Therapists who have carried out additional training for the intermediary role. Others are from a psychology background. Those working as an intermediary with young children may be experienced teachers.

What they all have in common is specialist knowledge and experience of assessing a person’s communication strengths and difficulties, and a common sense and pragmatic approach to how someone can best be assisted to understand and express themselves in court.
